How to Schedule or Cancel an Inspection

 

Why is inspection important in construction?

Routine inspections are a crucial part of every construction project. They ensure that workflows within a project are planned according to requirements, standards, and regulations. Inspection is necessary to meet industry standards for accuracy, quality and keep construction work on time and within budget.

Scheduling an inspection can be completed in two ways.

Inspectors and Inspection Hours

Building:
Robert Sherrow
Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 11:00am

Electric:
Frank “Duffy” Dyer
Hours: Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30am – 2:30pm

Plumbing:
Michael Ravenda
Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 4:30pm – 6:30 pm

Fire:
Alan Silverman
Hours: Monday and Wednesday – 12:00pm- 2:00pm

Upon receiving a building permit, it is your responsibility to call for all inspections required on this project.


INSPECTION SEQUENCE:

1. Footings - building inspector

2. Slab inspection when needed - building inspector

3. Backfill/foundation - building inspector

4. Foundation location survey for additions and new homes (2 copies)

5. Rough electric - electrical inspector

6. Rough plumbing - plumbing inspector

7. Rough fire (detector location/ fireplace) - fire inspector

8. Framing - building inspector (framing checklist is required for additions and new homes)

9. Insulation - building inspector

10. Final electric - electrical inspector

11. Final plumbing - plumbing inspector

12. Final fire - fire inspector

13. Final building - building inspector

The following only is required when applicable

14. As-built plan (letter from your architect) - submit to building department

15. As-built topographical survey (2 copies) - submit to building department

16. Bergen County Soil Conservation/ Bergen County Planning final approval

17. Borough engineer final approval

18. Completed application for Certificate of Occupancy

IMPORTANT NOTICE: PER THE NJ DIVISION OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS RULE: NJAC 13:45A - 16.2(a)10.ii FINAL PAYMENT TO THE CONTRACTOR IS NOT REQUIRED TO BE MADE BEFORE A FINAL INSPECTION IS PERFORMED.
